Heather made a dramatic onsight of Maria Ponte el Arnes (12c) at sector Pince Sans Rire today. Without hesitation, she skipped the crux bolt and kept climbing, a muerte, through the meat of the route. “Mother of God,” I mumbled while belaying – I didn’t want to catch the fall that would have almost certainly landed her on a steep slab near the start of the route. My nerves were frayed just belaying. Post-crux, Heather climbed with the skill of a seasoned limestone climber: she rested at kneebars and scanned ahead, then punched it when the moves got tough.
It was absolutely wonderful to watch.
And inspiring.
This was our sixth day at Rodellar (Heather’s sixth day ever climbing in Europe!), and her first 12c onsight of the trip.
Only one more climbing day in Rodellar, then it’s back home to Las Vegas.
Congratulations on an incredible send baby!
